Mats Skogden from Sweden and his wife Asa, along with their children Victor, Stina, Matilda and Sara spent some time diving in Puerto Galera with us at Scandi Divers Resort, proving that scuba diving can be the perfect family activity, and great fun for everyone.

Mats is an experienced diver and celebrated his birthday with a dive to the Alma Jane wreck and while they were here, Asa successfully completed her Open Water course and the kids did Junior Open Water, Junior Scuba Diver and Bubblemaker courses!

Our resorts on Big La Laguna Bay are very family orientated, and there is lots for the kids to do, in a safe and clean environment. If your kids are old enough to start diving, it can be an exciting and educational experience, providing them with a fresh perspective on the incredible creatures that live in our oceans.

Congratulations to Christina Bucao and Hiehanan van den Borenkamp who took the first step in scuba diving training and did their Discover Scuba courses with us!

Discover Scuba is the perfect way to see if scuba diving is something you will enjoy. After a couple of short hours learning some basic safety skills and learning about your equipment, you can go on your first open water dive. Your instructor will be right by your side and closely monitoring you at all times to ensure your safety.

A warm welcome back to Puerto Galera for Hannah Nicholson, accompanied on this trip by her father Stewart. Incredibly, Stewart did his Open Water Course back in 1977! He has done a Scuba Review refresher course so he can enjoy some quality time with his daughter, diving in Puerto Galera.

Hannah did her Advanced Open Water course last time she was at Scandi Divers Resort, and is now doing her Nitrox to extend her bottom time on the dive sites, and shorten her surface intervals.

A warm congratulations to Terry, manager of Scandi Divers Resort and Campbell’s Beach Resort, and also a Scandi Divers Instructor. That’s Terry on the right in the photo above, with his buddies from Taiwan, Eddie and Jon, who are also dive instructors. They are just about to go and enjoy another great dive. Even though Terry is always teaching dive courses or guiding guests around the local dive sites in Puerto Galera, he still manages to fit in some recreational diving of his own!

We decided to do something a little different the other day, and instead of visiting the usual dive sites, we opted to dive from Small La Laguna Beach to Big La Laguna (Where Scandi Divers Resort is located).

The currents were a little strong, but it was an other wise excellent dive. Good visibility and we saw lots of marine life including Puffer Fish, a Sea Snake, Trigger Fish and a Hawksbill Turtle. Of course there was also the typical abundance of beautiful hard and soft corals along the way.

Our dive group consisted of Cara Poage and Lorm Wallace from Seattle USA, who were doing their first fun dive after completing their Open Water Qualifications, Lorm and Cara’s friend Noah, as well as Joanne from Taipei, (freshly certified Scuba Diver) and trainee Divemaster Dennis, and Scandi Divers Instructor Conan.

We’ve had a lot of inquiries about scuba for kids, so here are the answers to all your questions!

The incredible world of scuba diving is not just for grown ups, but is also available to children from the age of 8yrs and upwards!
Introduce your kids to the all the fascinating things that the waters of Puerto Galera have to offer. Keep them entertained while they are with you on holiday, and give them an amazing experience to share with their friends!

Not only will they have great fun, but they will learn all about the underwater environment, and gain confidence in themselves while learning new and exciting skills.

Scuba For Kids: The Bubblemaker

This is the starting point of scuba for kids. Children learn about the scuba equipment,and such basic skills as equalising and how to clear a regulator, all under the direct supervision of our PADI professionals. Then the real FUN begins as the kids swim around & play underwater games. (Usually this is a 1 hour pool session. Min age 8 yrs. Max depth 2 meters).

Follow-up ocean dive:
Under the direct supervision of an instructor, and to a depth no deeper than 2 meters your kids can enjoy the freedom of the ocean, and experience the wonders of the underwater world, and marvel at the abundant sea life in Puerto Galera’s waters.

PADI Seal Team: Become a member of PADI’s elite & join the Seal Team.

This program is structured in 2 parts:
Part 1 is pool pool sessions teaching  kids the basics of scuba diving.
In AquaMissions 1-5 they will hone their skills (buoyancy, regulator and mask  recovery & clearing etc).

After part 1, students can become Master Seal Team members by moving on to part 2 of the course and completing an additional ten specialty AquaMissions. These specialties provide an introduction to other areas of diving. such as Creature ID, Search & Recovery and Snapshot Specialist. (Usually a 2 hour pool session for AquaMissions 1-5, plus 1 hour for each specialty. Min age 8 yrs. Max depth 4 meters).

Junior Open Water Diver:

For youngsters  aged 10 – 14 yrs the Junior Open water course is precisely the same as the standard Open Water course. The only differences being age and depth limitations:

Junior Open Water Divers ages 10-11 years old must dive with a PADI Professional or certified parent/guardian. Dives must not exceed 12 metres /40 feet.

Junior Open Water Divers ages 12-14 years old must dive with a certified adult. (13+ years old can take the Open Water Diver course online).

The PADI Open Water course concentrates on the fundamental aspects of diving, such as diving equipment and diving technique. There are 3 components to the course: Independent study & review, confined water skills training & 4 open water dives.

Rick and the famous Filipino guitarist & singer Jun Lopido played an excellent mix of Blues & Rock n Roll, making for a chilled-out evening with guests loving the music and enjoying the great atmosphere that the SkyBar always delivers.

Terry, Arman, Nalyn, from Scandi Divers & Rizza (Nalyn’s sister) from our neighbour resort LLBC all had their birthdays on May 2nd. We held a joint party up at the SkyBar where lots of friends & colleagues helped them celebrate. With Terry supplying the beer, the resort cooks putting on a fantastic BBQ buffet and a delicious birthday cake to share, everyone had loads of fun! Congratulations guys!
